ORGANISMS EXCHANGE SUBSTANCES WITH THE ENVIRONMENT
In this topic, you focus on the movement of substances into, out of and within an organism. With the movement in and out of organisms, the key is to focus on how surface area, concentration gradients and distance for movement applies to each organ understudy: leaves in plants, the tracheal system in insects, gills in fish and the lungs and small intestine in mammals. With the movement within organisms, there are three different concepts and organ systems to become familiar with: the cohesion-tension theory in xylem, translocation on phloem and the movement of blood in the circulatory system.
